Having read this topic, it left me feeling some what sad. Sad, in the fact if this actual happend and the uber carebears got their wish Eve would end up becoming EnB and would die shortly after that.
As its been established 0.0 space in the lawless fringe, so pirating and such should exist from gate ganks to hunting other players in belts.. the only laws that are their are the laws of an Alliance who claims that area and/or the law of the gun. If you travel out that way, you should expect to fight, and expect to be ganked.. if you don't then kudos you got lucky. But remember luck runs out, plus solo mining and hauling again as been stated if you do this then well, don't cry and whine to have the game changed to suit you. You want to mine in 0.0 go in group, not just miners but fighters you may lose ships you may not but at least you have a chance.
And to the comment of stop trying to shove pvp down peoples throats, Eve is built on pvp, not built on missions running and such almost every aspect is down to pvp from the markets to mining, if you don't want pvp then i guess you will want to play hello kitty on-line, but from what i have heard that will have some form of pvp (strange but true ) i imagine you would have hated Eve in the Beta and early releace when you could happily shoot someone in 1.0 space, kill them and get away pretty much scot free.. hell you could tank the navy ships in a rifter (mind you the rifter was the ship to fear in beta.) head to a gate jump, and that would be the end of it for a short while jump back to the system and carry on what your doing. (this made things interesting when dealing with ore theives and such as you could retaliate.) But things like gate guns and concord was added as it was very off putting to new players more so when you could sit in a n00bie sector outside the station and smartbomb anything that moved with out any real fear of being killed. Now we get more an more posts from lazy people, who want to have the game to change to fit them, rather then doing what many players have spent time learning to avoid, just so they either make themselves richer, with very little risk. As for the "I just want to explore" situation, there are ships that allow you to do this.. covert ops anyone? yes they can be caught out, but as many people who fly them will say, their a lot harder to hunt down and kill then they look.
The fact of the matter is, that you want to play in 0.0 either join an alliance, or go in a group and expect to fight and possible lose, rather the coming to the forums to cry, winge and rant about how you demand the game is changed to suit your fluffy life.
